Herbicides: NEMMC uses herbicide to help control invasive plants such as phragmites for our municipalities to aid in mosquito control efforts. Invasives thrive to outcompete native vegetation and adversely create mosquito breeding habitat by impacting water flow hydrology in wetlands. Successful abatement of invasive plants restores native vegetation and improves water flow leading to less breeding habitat. Herbicide applications are evaluated on a case-by-case basis for municipalities on ONLY city or town owned property.
