The Wetlands Management Program is part of the District’s overall Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to reduce mosquito populations by improving flow hydrology and/or enhancing natural predator success in their habitats. Wetlands Management Projects are an effective means to reduce or eliminate use of pesticide applications, provide long term control measures and support natural predator needs. Wetlands Management Projects aim to clear drainage and waterways of sediment, vegetation, and debris that obstruct water flow. This helps to reduce frequency and extent of flooding (mosquito habitat) and in some cases improve connectivity (for predators) to surrounding floodplains.
