How can I reduce the number of mosquitoes around my home?

To reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home and neighborhood, get rid of any standing water. Mosquitoes will breed in any standing water (no matter the size) that lasts for more than four days.

Here are some simple precautions you can take:

  1. Dispose of, cover, or regularly turn over any types of containers that can hold water, such as plastic containers, toys, pots, bird baths, etc, on your property.
  2. Move any discarded tires under cover from rainfall.
  3. Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers that are left outdoors, to let the water drain out.
  4. Clean clogged roof gutters regularly to remove any leaves or debris.
  5. Aerate ornamental ponds or stock them with fish.
  6. Keep swimming pools clean and properly chlorinated; remove standing water from pool covers during mosquito breeding season.
  7. If you have standing water or wetlands in or around your yard, you can call our office at (978) 352-2800 and one of our field technicians will come out and check these areas for mosquito larvae and treat if necessary.
