Greenhead trap design study

Greenhead trap in marshy areaIn an effort to recycle materials and reduce costs, the District designed and tested Barrel traps for capturing Greenhead flies (Tabanus nigrovittatus) on the salt marsh. The barrel traps were made using recycled barrels from our larviciding program. Barrel traps were set out in various patterns along with the standard box trap in select locations to determine which trap design was most effective in attracting and collecting greenhead flies. The barrel traps proved to be just as effective at capturing greenhead flies, while at the same time capturing fewer non-target insects. Read more on the Greenhead Fly Program by clicking here.
